Something interesting with Windows Updates

, Something interesting with Windows Updates

I just ran across this when trying to perform Windows Updates for Server 2008 and thought I would share.

I was attempting to install Windows updates AND Office updates, but I was not receiving the option in Windows Update to install Windows and Other Microsoft products.  This becomes useful as there seem to be a lot of Office 2013 updates that would otherwise require a lot of single download/installs.

It turns out that this is a bug when IE 11 is installed.

The workaround is:

  1. Add Microsoft.com to compatibility list in IE
  2. Restart Windows Update service, open Windows Update and click the option below

This should then open the following page to install the updated windows installer. Without Microsoft.com in compatibility view, you get a webpage but no install option to update windows updater.

Once installed you should now have the option below.
